Whether you're with family or friends, nothing beats a powder day at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. Popular for its huge terrain comprised of steep chutes and bowls, the resort can seem intimidating to many.

However, it also has a lot of amazing runs geared toward intermediate and beginner riders. With a learning area right at the ski base, newbies of all ages can hone their skills in a safe learning environment.

Here are a few local tips to ensure you have an awesome day of skiing and snowboarding at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.

1. Get an early start
Arriving early ensures you a sweet parking spot and allows your group plenty of time to get ready. You will want to leave time to account for anyone in your crew who needs rental equipment, and remember you will also need to get lift tickets. There's nothing quite like getting first tracks on a powder day!

2. Know before you go
It's a big resort, and understanding where you are on the mountain will make a huge difference in your day. Take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the trail map. Plan out the areas you want to ride to make sure you're hitting all the best terrain for your group.

We have trail maps available here at the lodge and we're happy to point out some of our favourite runs  :)

3. Use the buddy system
Riding with friends is way more fun, and it's also safer. It’s a big resort and people can easily get separated from their crew. Take frequent breaks on the mountain to make sure everyone is okay and still with the group before continuing on.

This is especially important if you're dipping into the trees - always ride with a buddy!
